2月11日是婦女和女童參與科學國際日。巴西的科學領域有許多傑出的女性，她們在專業上有卓越的成就，同時也是女性權益運動的推動者。

Do you know 11 February is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science?
為了慶祝這一特殊的日子，我們挑選了五位傑出的巴西女性，簡要介紹她們的卓越貢獻。讓我們一起來瞭解這些創造歷史的巴西女性科學家吧！
In order to celebrate this special day, we selected five inspirational Brazilian women, whose main contributions to science are described below. Get to know about the talented Brazilian female scientists who made and are still making history!
Bertha Lutz
動物學家、政治家和活動家。Bertha Lutz于1918年畢業于索邦大學生命科學專業。次年她被巴西國家博物館錄取，成為巴西第二位女性公務員。
Zoologist, politician and activist. Bertha Lutz graduated in Life Sciences at Sorbonne, in 1918. In the following year, she became the second woman to hold a position in the Brazilian civil service, after being accepted at the Brazilian National Museum.
作為爬蟲學家、研究員和講師的她在40多年的科學生涯中，和其他頂尖科學家和知識份子一道，就環境保護等多項問題制定政策。
She developed her scientific career for more than 40 years, as a herpetologist, researcher and lecturer. She worked with other leading scientists and intellectuals to formulate policy on diverse matters including the protection of the environment.
Bertha還學習了法律，在促進科學研究的同時，她在推動婦女權利方面的成就同樣令人矚目。1945年，她作為巴西代表團的一員參與《聯合國憲章》的談判，積極爭取將女性權利納入其中。
Bertha also studied law and had a notable political journey promoting women rights along with sciences. In 1945, she integrated the Brazilian delegation that negotiated the UN Charter and actively fought for the inclusion of women’s rights in the document.
Sonia Guimarães
Sonia Guimarães博士是一位開拓者。她獲得了曼徹斯特大學半導體設備的博士學位，成為第一位擁有物理學博士學位的巴西女性。
Dr. Sonia Guimarães is a pathfinder. She is the first Brazilian woman to have a PhD in Physics, having obtained her title on Semiconductor Devices by the University of Manchester.
她在巴西航空技術學院教授實驗物理學，也是該校首位黑人女性講師。目前正在進行有機發光二極體和量子點的研究。
She is also the first black woman to become a lecturer at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA/Brazil) where she teaches experimental physics. She is currently researching about organic light emitting diodes and quantum dots.
她支持女孩選擇STEM作為職業，反對種族歧視和性別歧視。
She advocates for girls who choose STEM as a career and against race and gender discrimination.
Duilia De Mello
Duilia de Mello博士是 “星空的女人”。她在聖保羅大學獲得天文學博士學位，目前是美國天主教大學物理系正教授並擔任負責全球戰略的副教務長。
Dr. Duilia de Mello is “a woman of the stars”. She holds a PhD in Astronomy at the University of São Paulo and is currently full Professor in the Physics Department and the Vice Provost for Global Strategies of the Catholic University of America.
她在天文領域貢獻顯著，如發現一顆超新星、建立星爆星系的恒星群模型，以及用哈勃太空望遠鏡拍攝深層圖像。
Her contributions to the field goes from discovering a supernova, to modelling the stellar population of starburst galaxies, and to taking deep images with the Hubble Space Telescope.
Duilia博士還創建了Mulheres das Estrelas（星空的女人）項目，支持其他女性在STEM領域的發展。
Committed to support other women in their STEM journey, Dr. Duilia has created the project Mulheres das Estrelas.
Carolina Horta Andrade
Andrade博士是巴西戈阿斯聯邦大學藥學院的藥物化學教授，也是分子建模和藥物設計實驗室（LabMol）的負責人。她是聖保羅大學的藥學博士。
Dr. Andrade is a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of UFG (Brazil) and head of LabMol – Laboratory for Molecular Modeling and Drug Design. She obtained her Ph.D. in Drugs and Medicines from the University of Sao Paulo.
她重點研究被忽視疾病和癌症的藥物設計，利用綜合的虛擬篩選（VS）技術、定量構效關係模型、化學資訊學和化學基因組學方法來確定治療這些疾病的新的苗頭化合物。
Her research focuses in Drug Design for Neglected Diseases and Cancer, using integrated Virtual Screening (VS) approaches, QSAR models, and cheminformatics and chemogenomics approaches to identify new hit compounds for these diseases.
Carolina博士曾獲得巴西歐萊雅-聯合國教科文組織-巴西科學院頒發的 “傑出女科學家成就獎”，並獲得歐萊雅-聯合國教科文組織頒發的 “國際潛力人才獎”。她同時也參與開普敦大學的研究項目。
Dr. Carolina was awarded at the “For Women in Science” award from L’Oréal Brasil- UNESCO-ABC, and also received the “International Rising Talents” award from L’Oréal – UNESCO. She jointed research projects at the University of Cape Town.
Jaqueline Góes de Jesus
巴伊亞聯邦大學人類和實驗病理學博士Jaqueline Goés博士參與了48小時內SARS-CoV2的完整基因組測序，在科學界引起轟動。
PhD in Human and Experimental Pathology by the Federal University of Bahia, Dr. Jaqueline Goés towered over the science scenario after participating of the complete genome sequencing of SARS-CoV2 in 48 hours.
她目前在聖保羅熱帶醫學研究所（IMT-USP）擔任FAPESP博士後研究員，在巴西-英國蟲媒病毒發現、診斷、基因組學和流行病學中心（CADDE）開展研究。
She’s currently developing researches as a FAPESP Fellow at a postdoctoral level at the Tropical Medicine Institute of São Paulo (IMT-USP), within CADDE – Brazil-UK Center for Arbovirus Discovery, Diagnosis, Genomics and Epidemiology.
